Last over nail biter see OGCC take the bounty from Basingstoke
Despite blue skies and bright sunshine, it was a chill wind that welcomed the U11Bs to May’s Bounty Ground. Having lost the toss, Odiham were
invited to bat and quickly set about building a commanding total with Tom Wheeler and Max de Ruig setting an early pace, some straight bowling and tight fielding, and a flurry of wickets pinned us back in the middle order. A late partnership between
Henry Davis and Fergus van der Flier secured an innings total of 95-5. In response Basingstoke were constrained early by some aggressive pace bowling from Seb Johnson and Joey McGregor, and although their run rate picked up, key wickets fell mid order with Peter Washer taking 2-5, India Fulford 1-14. Three further wickets fell to long accurate throws, but still the scoreboard ticked over such that with 1 over to go 10 runs were required but Max de Ruig’s line and nerve were up to the mark squeezing Basingstoke out to fall short by 6. An fabulous team performance under the leadership of James Richardson- played in a great spirit against a very capable Basingstoke side. Well done to everyone not least the stalwart supporters on such a chill evening.
