U11B beat Alton

Well done to the U9B’s who took an emphatic win against Alton this morning by 354 runs to 253.
The team was as follows:
1 Charlie E
2 Edward T (capt)
3 Oliver L-B
4 Heston G
5 Sam J
6 Miles R
7 Ethan R
8 Luke B
This match was the rearranged first match of the season, cancelled due to weather, and fortunately the weather held out today.
Edward captained for the day, and having won the toss opted to bat first.  Carlie and Edward opened the batting and had a great pairing – plenty of 4’s between them.  Then Oli and Heston came in and put on an excellent 68 between them.  To be fair to Heston, he didn’t get much of a look in, because Oli kept on peppering the boundary with 6’s and 4’s and consequently ended up scoring an individual 56.  Miles and Sam then came in and unfortunately faced, without doubt, their least able bowlers, which at this level, is a restriction on the ability to score – A few 4’s were scored, particularly by Sam, but the bowling offered a higher score due to the inaccuracy. The last pairing of Luke and Ethan faced, by their own admission, their best bowlers, and stoically managed to put on another 9.  The end score was 354.
We had no idea from the bowling and fielding how Alton were going to fare on the batting front, but we knew they had a short boundary and so the fielding and bowling had to be sharp.  The boys were superb and sharp from the start.  It’s really difficult to pick an individual bowler who was stand-out, because they were all excellent but I must credit Charlie and Edward as our opening pair, as being very effective and economical.  However, it has to be said that by a very clear margin, the fielder of the day has to go to Miles who not only caught two excellent catches – one on the run and one with great reactions behind the wicket when taking his wicket keeping slot, but also because he redeemed himself from dropping what the crowd no doubt felt was a tough but achievable catch, by catching it on the second bounce and then throwing it straight into the wicket to run out the batsman anyway.  He also clean bowled one of their players.
My players of the day must go to Oli for his awesome batting and to Miles for his superb fielding.
