3XI vs Herriad

3XIv

We skipped individual match reports for our first 2 league games, partly because we are a modest lot in the 3's and partly because both games were lost !
We did take the positives though from our opening 2 matches....a great track provided by Spready at our new base in Long Sutton, solid batting by last year's top scorer Netty, belligerent batting from Max, keeping the horses on their toes in the field over long off.

Bowling highlights were provided by new man Andrew with a nagging length, Ali bowling spin and pace, a wicket off the last ball of a 13 ball over by a debutant (name on application). More saving graces have been the stumpings galore in game 1 from the man with more chat than Alan Carr and the wonderful teas from Tina and Maria.
So it was with some trepidation that we approached game 3 against a team with a win under their belts already, Herriard.
Skipper lost the toss as per all games so far, put in to bat without Netty & Dibble and Max on the M25 till 2.30. Spin the bottle ended with the skipper opening the batting with Spready. At halfway we were 120-3 largely thanks to a swift and audacious 46 from Steve Tomlinson, Max was just getting his eye in and the skipper trying to farm out the strike to the proper batsmen. When the last over began Max was 99* and Nick 96*. Max completed his century with 10 6's including one off his very first ball. The skipper was run out on 99 trying to get back on strike for the last ball ! Team score 325-4.
The bowlers then also came into their own......ably supported by 3 catches in the slip cordon and very solid outcricket. Safi's dangerous left arm round bagged 4 wickets and there were excellent performances by the Fisher brothers, Ollie and Ben with accurate line and length seamers. Oppo all out 141.
We are off next Sat so a well earned rest. Let's see what we can turn out in June. You gotta love the cliche..... "You're only as good as your last game" and we'll settle for that for now........
