OGCC Presidents Day 2019
Odiham & Greywell Vs The Cricket Society
The weather was mostly dry, with sunny intervals, and calmer than of late. It was agreed to play a timed match. TCS won the toss and chose to bat. James Birch and Liam Schooling opened the bowling, but conceded runs fast. However, Kyran Munt and Sean Merriman restored control for OGCC, bowling with great accuracy for twenty overs, and taking three key wickets: Kyran repeatedly made TCS batsmen play and miss at pace. Phil Thomas then took two wickets, bowling spin, and took an excellent catch off Lars Mosesson, before Becky Hartnett and Daniel Warna kept things tight until TCS declared after 46 overs at 188 for 7, leaving OGCC about 34 overs.
Netty Warna had injured his back and was unable to bat, so Liam Schooling and Harry Daysh opened against some quick bowling. Kyran Munt, 69, and Phil Thomas, 30, then counter-attacked with some splendid shots, and, after Daniel Warna fell, Becky Hartnett and James Birch saw OGCC home, with five wickets and eight overs to spare. It was a good all-round performance, with Kyran Munt having an outstanding game.
The game was played in its usual good humour, with the President being an active and genial host. The pitch played very well, the tea (presented by Betts Cross) was of the usual high standard, and members of TCS and their guests stayed well into the evening.
