Odiham Vs Kempton

Odiham Vs Kempton

Sunday, September August the 1st, 2019,

This was a new fixture, and Kempton had only recently started playing on Sundays.  Their team had players from all four of their Saturday-teams.  They were friendly and had much good banter among themselves.  The ground is a little beyond the M25, but easy to get to.  The weather was dry, with sunny intervals, but autumnal, with some blown leaves.  It was a 40-over game.

Odiham won the toss and chose to bat.  Zac le Roux scored a fine 59, Liam a characterful 53, and Alfie Hellings 34.  Jamie le Roux opened his scoring with a big six, and Odiham were all out for 247 in the 39th over.

Sean Merriman and Jamie le Roux opened the bowling, and reduced Kempton to 11 for 4, so other bowlers were brought on to make it more of a game.  However, runs were conceded fast – Jamie Read conceded 38 runs in his two overs - and a stand of over one-hundred was put on.  Just as it appeared that Kempton might get back into the game, the more-regular bowlers were brought on and took key wickets, Lars Mosesson picking up two, before the opening bowlers returned to mop up the tail.  Of the seven bowlers used, Sean finished with 8-2-24-4 and Jamie (not Read) with 6-4-11-1, as Kempton were all out for 194.  There were some fine catches in the low sunshine, two by Jamie Read and one by Jake Davies Jones, and a couple of drops.  It was a good all-round performance.

The game was played in good humour, and the tea was decent.   The pitch played well, although the field was long and thin.  If we play there again, we will play on the main field, which is larger and better-proportioned: it had been let out to another club before the season started.
