With the skipper & vice skipper away sunning themselves the job was handed to Spreadie much to his surprise.
A hot and humid day was install for us which unfortunately wasn’t our main concern as we prepared for our next away day at Bransgore.
It is true to say that the 3's were unbeaten in June. It would also be fair to mention that the first weekend was our scheduled game off and the next two matches were rained off. We are a glass 3/4 full team though, in fact some members of the team would be happiest with a few full glasses during the game !
Week seven into the season and we were back on the road again. Thankfully we were only having to make the short 9 mile trip to Rowledge.
After a week off due to the weather, the O’s headed home to face Herriard 1XI, yet another 1st team, but who had been struggling so far this year. A foreign situation had faced us earlier in the week, that of having too many players to choose from(!) meaning that some balance was finally brought back to the team.
Matchday 6, and the team were back at home for their encounter with Bishops Waltham, who were sat just behind us in the table.
After the disappointing loss the previous week, the squad had regrouped and were determined to put in a decent performance on the road again as we travelled down the m27 to Fair Oak.
We skipped individual match reports for our first 2 league games, partly because we are a modest lot in the 3's and partly because both games were lost !
We did take the positives though from our opening 2 matches....a great track provided by Spready at our new base in Long Sutton, solid batting by last year's top scorer Netty, belligerent batting from Max, keeping the horses on their toes in the field over long off.
