2nd XI match report v Crown Taverners 1stXI

The 2nd XI hosted Crown Taverners 1stXI at the King Street Oval on Saturday 20th of May.

Stand in skipper won the second toss on the trot and elected to bat first on what looked to be a good track with the sun shining.

Henry got off to a great start, finding the boundary regularly. Opening partner Nat spent some time at the crease in support of Henry before nicking off to their opener.

Henry batted nicely but sadly scooped one to mid on and was out for a run a ball, quick fire 36.

Liam S and Dan followed quickly after. Not the start the O’s were after, reeling at 56 for 4.

Max and Liam M, looked really good together, putting on 34 for the 4th wicket before Max was run out.

Sanjay and Liam M fell in quick succession and things were looking dire at 106 for 7 with the oppo saying they would be drinking beers by 4pm.

Dave and Ollie spent some time purely occupying the crease. Ollie out next for an important 5 off 26 balls.

The stand in skipper took a liking to the returning opening pair and found the boundary six times before sticking one down the throat of the deep square leg fielder on the boundary. Out for 37.

Becky and Archie Horne put on a vital 23 for the 10thwicket, largely thanks to some positive batting from Archie. Out for 18 off 23. Becky not out on 3 off an important 27 balls.

The tail had waged to post something that was defendable and the momentum had swung.

Into the second innings and the skipper struck early removing both openers without scoring. 3 for 2 and it was game on.

Archie impressed on debut for the 2s with a fantastic spell of 0 for 15 off 6.

A 41 run 3rd wicket partnership was looking ominous before Becky came in and made the breakthrough.

A period with a number of maidens in a row between Becky and Ollie and the pressure was building.

Two more wickets from Becky in a wonderful spell of 3 for 38 off 9.

The Crown Taverners skipper was looking really solid and building an innings, the O’s high level of bowling and fielding was keeping us in the game with regular wickets at the other end.

The 8th wicket partnership looked dangerous before the skipper managed to trap their number 9 in front after a quick fire 18 off 11 balls.

The oppo skipper starting scoring freely and edging his side closer towards our total. A leaping caught and bowled on the last ball of the spell for the O's skipper saw their skipper depart for a very well played 61.

4 for 33 off 9 for ‘Big Dave’, later made ‘famous’ on Serious Cricket’s socials.

Ollie finished things off sealing a fine victory for the Os with another tidy spell of 2 for 19 off 6.

A win by 34 runs for the 2nd XI.

We showed a lot of heart out on the field and bowled really well to defend a low total on that pitch. A fantastic game of cricket, and hopefully signs of great things to come for the season ahead.
