This week saw us head to the new forest to face a new team in our league. We turned up and saw a lot of youngsters, Becky, Nat and Jo were feeling very old at this point!
Striding out to the middle for the toss on what looked a fabulous deck to have a bowl first, Becky’s normal service resumed and Odiham lost the toss and unfortunately were made to have a bat.
Another new opening pair for the O’s this week saw Nat MItchell and Sophie Purnell take to the middle. Nat picked up where she left off last week smashing the opening bowler for back to back fours but then also being careful and protecting her wicket. Unfortunately for Sophie this week she did not trouble the scorer as she was dismissed by the New Forests opening bowler. Nat was then joined at the crease by Charlotte Schooling who has had some bad luck batting for the women in the past few games. But today was going to be different, new batting position and a new found confidence! Must be all those nets with her dad! Nat and Charlotte kept the score ticking along nicely until the explosive innings of Nat came to an end for 21. In at 4 was the O’s skipper who was hoping to continue her good fortune from the week before. Becky and Charlotte formed a great partnership, which seemed to last a lifetime due to very long hygiene breaks and a lot of field changed from the young opposition.
Some big hitting and a mix of working the ball into the big gaps from the pair kept the run rate up and the scoreboard ticking nicely. Until Becky was caught at cover for 26 off their loopy leg spinner. After impressing the skipper with her blistering 28 the previous week it was Lenice Downham that joined Charlotte in the middle with only 9 over remaining.
Unluckily for Lenice there was no promise of nose piercings this week which obviously did not spur her on to score less than 1 and was bowled by a new forest youngster. Soon after charlotte was dismissed for 27 from a very dodgy lbw decision, i didn’t realise if it hit you in the stomach you could be out lbw!
With a new pair at the crease in Jo Gray and Katy Purnell the pressure could’ve been on for Odiham in the remaining overs but with some wayward bowling and some fab running from the ladies the score kept ticking on, until jo was bowled for 4. To face the last couple of balls in came Rebecca Merriman, who going for a big shot was caught and did not add to the teams total. Odiham finish on 122-7 off 30 overs.
A quick tea and turn around and it was Odiham’s turn to bowl. With not a relatively small total on the board it was the bowlers turn to do their job. Opening up for odiham was our ever reliable Lenice who had a very strong cross wind to battle with. She bowled well in difficult conditions with only 15 coming from her overs with no return unfortunately.
Katie Barden was next into the attack for the O’s who bowled the best spell I think Ive ever seen her bowl, resulting in figure of 2-4 from 4 overs. This included a maiden and also a double wicket maiden!! Next up was Zoe Munday who again had the difficult end with the wind, but this did not phase her and she bowled a fabulous spell with a return of 3-20 from 5. The New forest kept up with the run rate all the way through their innings but with the some great fielding and some more tight bowling from Becky (1-7 from 3) Charlotte (also 1-7 from 3) and Siobhan who only need 4 balls to take a wicket The New Forest were all out for 84. Another fine win for the Ladies!
This Sunday sees us travel to Ropley to take on their second team. Here’s hoping for another glorious win to keep the streak going!
